Flow of Life [Knitting Pattern - PDF]

Flow of Life is a delightful journey through various knitting techniques, reflecting the twists and turns of life itself. This charming triangular shawl, perfect for beginners or those wanting to explore new textures, is both a quick and enjoyable knit. With garter and broken rib stitches to start, you'll soon progress to a decorative lace and eyelet border, adding a beautiful touch to your creation.

Using just one skein of Cheeky Merino Joy, this lightweight accessory adds a joyful pop of colour to any outfit. It's an ideal project if you're looking to play with textures for the first time, or perhaps you’d like to make a thoughtful gift for someone who brings joy to your own life.

Pattern Notes:

  • Skill Level: Easy
  • Yarn: Rosy Green Wool – Cheeky Merino Joy (100% softest organic Merino), 320 m (350 yds) per 100 g, shown in colour Topaz Melange (1 skein, 91 g).
Yarn consumption may vary depending on individual tension. This pattern embraces a zero-waste concept, making the most of 1 skein. A 20 x 20 cm (8 x 8 in) gauge swatch weighs approximately 18 g. You may need to unravel the swatch to complete the shawl, or knit a smaller swatch.
  • Needles: 4 mm (US 6) 80 cm (32 in) circular needle
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
  • Other Materials: 4 stitch markers, crochet hook, waste yarn for provisional cast-on, and darning needle.
  • Gauge: 20 sts x 36 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in) over garter stitch with 4 mm (US 6) needles after blocking.
  • Size: Depth: 39.5 cm (15.75 in), Wingspan (along top edge): 104.5 cm (43 in)

Knitting Notes:

Flow of Life is knitted top-down, beginning with a garter tab cast-on. Increases are made on both the right- and wrong-side rows to shape the triangular shawl. The main body consists of alternating sections of garter and broken rib stitches, culminating in a simple lace pattern and an eyelet edge. A stretchy cast-off ensures a beautiful drape and flowing finish.
